FAQs of Surface Mount Electrical Box
A surface mount electrical box can be attached directly to the surface of almost any wall with a visible box. It is easy to install, maintain and highly adaptable.
A flush mount electrical box is installed in a cavity inside the wall. Installation requires adequate wall interior space to support the distribution box and careful planning of wire access points. With just the panels showing, it's got a nice, clean look, which makes it a popular choice for businesses and high-end homes.
While surface mount electrical boxes might not be as eye-catching as flush mounts, they're a popular choice in industrial environments and for renovating older buildings because they're easy to install and more affordable.
After preparing the necessary tools (eg. drill, screws, expansion screws, circuit breakers, wires, insulation tape and distribution box), it is time to install the surface-mounted electrical box.
- First of all, grab a level and find a horizontal line on a dry and ventilated wall. Mark where you're going to put the box.
- Then, drill holes at the marked points with an electric drill and drive in expansion screws. Then, use the screws to attach it to the wall through the four mounting holes on the back of the electrical box.
- Install the circuit breaker on the DIN rail or the galvanised mounting plate.
- Install wiring. Bring in the main wires and then the corresponding branch circuit wires as needed. Don't forget to connect the zero and ground wires.
- Finally, check and test to make sure there is no short circuit or leakage.
At SKKBO, our surface mount electrical boxes are available in pastic, aluminum, stainless steel, cold rolled steel, and galvanized steel. If you intend to install exterior surface mount electrical box in a harsh environment, then a stainless steel and cold rolled steel electrical box may be a better choice, while plastic and aluminum may be preferred for indoors. Galvanized steel options could be used for humid environments.
